Meet Dr. Indu Tanna
Board-Certified Health & Life Coach · Doctor of Holistic Medicine — Founder, Beyond the Plate. Nurturing the roots of the next generation through mindful cooking, nature connection and holistic well-being.
Welcome! I am Indu Tanna, the creator of Beyond the Plate — a dedicated space for bringing harmony, joy and lifelong wellness to family mealtime dynamics.
With nearly three decades of clinical leadership and a deep foundation in holistic healing, I help parents and children end the food wars and build a loving, sustainable relationship with nutrition.
The philosophy of Beyond the Plate
True wellness is never just about what is on the plate — it is about everything that shapes your life beyond the plate. It is the connection we share around the dinner table, the mindfulness we bring to our choices, and the environment we build for our families to thrive.
My mission is to help you move past counting calories and fighting over vegetables, shifting instead toward a lifestyle rooted in creativity, joy and deep nourishment.
My core philosophy is rooted in stress-free family meals and intuitive eating. I believe that when you remove the pressure, anxiety and rigid rules from the dinner table, children naturally become adventurous eaters.
Nutrition should never feel like a chore or a battle. Instead it is about empowering parents to create a supportive environment where children can learn and explore new textures at their own pace, and build a joyful lifelong relationship with food.
What I am here to do
My goal is not to prescribe extreme diets or rigid rules. Instead, I help families understand how everyday choices — especially the foods children eat — can support their growth, energy, vitality, emotional well-being and long-term health.
Together, we focus on practical, sustainable dietary practices and nutrient-dense foods that fit your child’s individual needs and your family’s real life.

Beyond the clinical chart
Mindful cooking & creative living
For me, health goes far beyond numbers on a clinical chart — it is an art form. I am deeply passionate about mindful cooking, focusing my energy on being exceptionally creative in the kitchen and churning out delicious, inventive recipes that prove nutritious food is a joy to eat.
In today’s digital age, where cellphones and screens so often rule our daily lives, I believe true wellness requires us to intentionally disconnect and ground ourselves. When I am not coaching, you can find me immersed in my other creative passions.
Nature
Spending hours quietly observing the beauty of birds and animals.
Gardening
Tending to the earth and watching life grow.
Interior decorating
Channelling my artistic flair to design warm, beautiful spaces.

Where it all began
A mother’s gift
The person entirely responsible for my way of life is my mother. Growing up, she lovingly inculcated these qualities in me, teaching me to see the beauty in nature, the joy in creation, and the profound peace of being present.
She believed deeply in a holistic upbringing that nurtured the whole child. Even the simplest chores weren’t tasks — they were invitations to belong, teaching us from a young age the joy of contributing to the home.
Now, my deepest wish is to pass this precious gift forward. I want to help the next generation step away from screens and digital noise, empowering them to grow up with rich, healthy habits and beautiful memories to cherish for a lifetime.
Because of her mindful care, I didn’t just grow up — I truly thrived.
Why I started
My story & motivation
Moving to the US, I observed a universal struggle playing out in the homes of friends, neighbours and families: the daily battle over food.
I saw parents caught in a constant, stressful cycle of healthy food versus junk food, fighting uphill battles against picky eating habits, dislikes and modern lifestyle pressures. Food should be a source of connection and vitality, yet it had become a primary source of household conflict.
Having spent decades guiding patients through complex nutritional challenges in a fast-paced clinical setting, I knew I could help. I realised my true calling was to move beyond the hospital walls and step directly into the family dynamic.
I transitioned into health and life coaching to channel my lifetime of skills, clinical talent and deep empathy toward empowering parents and school-aged children. Together, we replace anxiety and restriction with a joyful, healthy, lifelong relationship with food.
